For the first time ever, an 888poker qualifier will attend 2016 WSOP Main Event November Nine. There are in fact two qualifiers still in the race for poker’s most prestigious title and the $8 million first-place prize.
Canada’s Griffin Benger and Spain’s Fernando Pons both qualified for the $10,000 2016 WSOP Main Event, each of them now guaranteed at least $1 million!
While Benger, an established poker pro, has competed for seven-figure scorers in the past – he has more than $2.3 million in lifetime earnings after all – Pons is in uncharted territory and looking to be the next Chris Moneymaker. That’s because Pons, who had just $10,589 in live tournament earnings heading into the Main Event, qualified for the tournament through a €30 888poker.es satellite.
When asked if he knew who else had won a €30 satellite ticket and made it big, he replied, “Oh, yes – Chris Moneymaker! Moneymaker infamously turned a satellite entry into $2.5 million when he won the 2003 WSOP Main Event. Well then, i guess I’m the PonsMaker”
Congratulations to Benger and Pons on navigating a field of 6,737 players – of which 148 were 888poker qualifiers — to make the 2016 WSOP Main Event November Nine. In four months, both will return sporting the 888poker patch and as they compete for poker immortality.
Stay tuned to 888poker as we’ll be bringing you more on both these players between now and the November Nine.
